NEW LOCATION AND BIG STARS FOR 2009 INTERNATIONAL HORROR & SCI-FI FILM FESTIVAL
[download pdf]
The International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival is preparing for its fifth year and is returning to Tempe. The festival will be moving to MADCAP Theaters on Mill Avenue in Tempe, where it will take place October 15-18, 2009.
MADCAP Theaters is the location where the International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival started out five years ago, when the theatre was Harkins Centerpoint. The festival is excited to be back in Tempe and close to Arizona State University. For its return to Tempe, the Festival will be bringing some big names from the world of Horror and Science Fiction films and inducting them into the IHSFF Hall of Fame.
This year’s inductees include Judith O'Dea, known for her role as Barbara in the George A. Romero 1968 classic zombie film Night of the Living Dead; Marilyn Burns who played Sally in the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and later went on to star in Eaten Alive and the television mini-series Helter Skelter, about the real-life trial of Charles Manson; and Casper Van Dien, who is best known for his role as Johnny Rico in the 1997 science fiction classic Starship Troopers. Sponsored by the Phoenix Film Foundation and created by The Executive Board in 2005, the IHSFF Hall of Fame honors those individuals that have made a difference in Horror and Science Fiction film.
MADCAP Theatres will be a haven for Horror and Sci-Fi movie lovers during the three-day festival where more than 50 films will be screened throughout the weekend. The festival will also include parties, a gore girl competition, and discussions with filmmakers and directors.
MADCAP Theaters, located at 730 S. Mill Avenue, is becoming the new hub for live entertainment and cultural activities in downtown Tempe.
